3 weeks ago I got a call from our friend Jodi at Sassy / G Magazine to make a guest appearance on their radio show on Da Bomb 102.7. Every Sunday night, Jodi and her staff host a radio talk show, aimed at Hawaii teenagers, where they get to talk and answer questions about issues of interest to listeners. This week's topic: Street Racing.

Also invited to the show was Major Bryan Wauke, division commander for HPD's traffic detail. If there's a street racing news report on TV and they're talking to the police, chances are they're talking to Major Wauke.

As 9pm rolled around, the Sassy / G staff, Major Wauke, and I crammed into Da Bomb's studio with DJ Kool E. Jodi went over what the basics of the program would be: talking about the definitions of street racing, penalties, alternatives, and then a few listener questions.

As soon as we went on air and started talking about the topic at hand, the phone board started ringing off the hook. We only had time enough to answer a few calls on the air, but it seemed like many of the questions were about Hawaii's reconstruction laws. Other than that, there were a few good comments from people involved with cars and racing, but also a few calls from people who probably shouldn't be driving, given their mentality.

Overall, I think it was good to have a chance for Major Wauke and I to both share the same forum. A few weeks ago, we were both in the same news broadcast talking about our views of street racing, but this was the first time we've met in person. Through a bunch of shameless on-air plugs for the Drift Session and more proactive actions, we hope that the incidence of street racing can be curbed and controlled, if not stopped altogether.

Thank you Sassy / G Magazine for inviting the Drift Session to your show! It was very informative and we hope we can join you again.
