Comments from
the Signal Auto Drift Challenge; May 25, 2003.
"This
was the biggest turn out yet and this was the most I've ever seen at
HRP not to mention Fumiaki Komatsu and Chunky Bai tearing up the
track and putting on a hell of a show."
"I
was there from 5. Turnout was huge for this event... Props to Shimos
for the biggest event ever at HRP. He sure knows how to attract a
crowd. Although the last time I saw him he had another idea on how
to attract even more people but I guess he's saving that for
later."
"I
thought it was AWESOME!!! I mean the turnout was crazy....never seen
that many people at tracks....I think since I started racing back in
high school...damn I honestly think that was the best 10 bucks I
ever spent...and it was probably my last night at track, being as
though I am leaving in three weeks...I am just pissed off that my
camera battery died right as the twins were coming out!! The second
time that is!! but I'd say all in all it was a great night."
"It
was awesome.... Can't
wait to see the clips and pics."
"I
was at the Signal tent drooling. The run where they both stopped and
did their lil thing in front of the stands was good stuff!"
"When
I got there, I was really worried about the parking situation. A
grip of people were lining the sides of the road an hour before the
gates opened!"
"I
think everyone did a kick ass job, all of the Hawaii drifters have
gotten way better since last time, and even Signal said that Hawaii
owns everyone else in the U.S. in drifting! The event was dope as
usual, even though I`ve seen them do their thing before I was still
amazed each time they came out, much props to everyone."
"Drift
Session was awesome...never been to one of those events before...I
was dragged to go...glad I went...never got to see drivers go
sideways... I didn't know how it was gonna be set up for
that...those Japan guys rock."
"Just
would like to say it was awesome. There has never been an event that
pulled in that much people to HRP; people were parking across the
street on the grass, even the oval track parking lot was full. Very
impressive and the drifters were awesome. Those Japaneese guys are
crazy. Those guys go through tires like nothing, I had to walk
across the drag strip to get to the oval track parking and there was
pieces of rubber everywhere!"
"The
event was awesome. We should have more events like this to promote
the drift and track scene."
"Can't
wait for the next event! I hope HRP sees that drifting is becoming
one of the next big sports. I'm just sad that we're not getting much
recognition out here in Hawaii. Before the twins came here on the
25th, they had an event in Cali called Drift Showoff. From the clips
and pics I've seen, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the show the
Twins gave us. I'm not really sure about the local drifters out
there in Cali. I've heard mixed things, but haven't seen for myself
so I can't comment. June 15 they are having Japan D1 Gran Prix
Professional Drifting Circuit US Drivers Search in Cali.
Unfortunately majority of the Hawaii drifters get left out."
"I
have never been to a drifting event with drifters like these two. I
believe there are many very talented drivers here on Oahu that given
enough track time and experience with more drifting and full track
racing events like in Japan, would seriously give the Japanese pros
a run for their money. As with everything, practice makes perfect.
It would be great if there were more full racing and drifting events
at HRP and more participation. If they can play baseball, we can
drift!"
"Thanks
to the Signal Auto guys. Thank you very much for a great ride! I
hope there will be more events like this! Aloha and take care!"
"A
future event I would like to see happen would be a Hawaii vs.
California drift challenge."
"Big
ups to all of our own Hawaii drivers that earned their spots at the
event."
"Yes
the Signal Auto Drift event was off the hook! I think all the Hawaii
drifters did a great job representing!! And the talent level this
year .... amazing. Couple steps up from the last time Signal came
down. Seriously, you guys are getting good. Going a lot faster and
harder than last year. I was really happy to see the turnout too ...
almost 3000 strong?!? Crazy!! Looked like a longer line than drag
racing nights! All in all, I consider the event a huge success and
I'm really happy to see drifting becoming more recognized and
supported."
"It
was awesome. The event was freaking packed. Its the first time I've
seen people lined up around the fence just to get glimpses of the
action. All the drifters last night put on a show well worth the
money. They showed Japan, Grip, and 360 that Hawaii has one of the
best import action scenes. Thanks to all the guys that gave it their
all, and not giving up after bumps and bruises to them and their
cars."
"Always
love the Drift Sessions / competitions…I have to give props to all
the drifters and especially to Ross (Petty) for tailing one of the
twins on the tandem, you did awesome kid."
"I
had a lot of fun... I can't wait for the next one."
"I've
been flying up to the mainland events. In my honest opinion, with 2
or 3 exceptions Hawaii would absolutely demolish the California
drivers."
"Great
fun, and awesome seeing friends we knew in action!"
"I
had so much fun....the drifters did really well...much kudos to them."
"I
am very certain the Twins and the rest of Signal's crew were
impressed as well by our drivers. Comparing the skill level from
last years visit to this year visit, all the Hawaii drivers are a
lot better."
"Anyone
have any idea how many people turned out? It was packed!"
"First
of all, wow! That was the greatest event I have seen in my life. I
liked everything that happened in the program. The Signal Auto and
Drift Session crew did a great job to entertain the thousands of
spectators that showed up. Dave and Tom must have busted their butts
off to keep things at pace, GREAT JOB! Komatsu and Bai literally
left me in shock and awe after those runs and impressive moves that
they've done. The local drifters also kicked ass out there. You guys
showed the Japan team how to work it. Awesome work!
Comments
from the Signal Auto Drift Clinic; Sept. 2, 2002.
“My
god the Drifter X is fast. Komatsu was a crazy SOB... I had a
great time there!”
“If
you missed it then I’m sorry to say you missed out... today has
changed the way many look at drifting for good I’m sure, and
it’ll only up the ante for everyone else.”
“I've
had videos of drifting for years. I know in my head how good and how
fast these guys are supposed to be… and yet what we saw today was
just...impossible.”
“I
loved it...it was honestly one of the best times I ever had…if you
guys didn’t go you missed out on something great.”
“Today
was off the hook. It is one of the best events I've ever
attended.”
“Was
Monday just the most awesome thing you've seen at HRP or what?!?!?!?
That was the most fun I've had in a LONG time!”
“It
got me completely back into drifting 100% again.”
“It
was the most insane thing I've ever seen in person.”
“I
went (to) the Drift Session and it was the s**t… the sunburn was
worth it all… I want to go again.”
“I
knew Komatsu-san was good but damn!!! I can’t wait till the next
DS (Drift Session)!!”
“What
will everyone try now that we've all seen what's possible?”
“The
Signal Auto Drift Clinic was the most insane thing I've ever watched
in person.”
“(I’ve)
never seen drifting like that in real life before and after seeing
it everyone else’s drifts (including mine) suck s**t really
bad.”
“This
Drift Session was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Watching
Komatsu drifting in person was 23089749028375 times better then
watching any Option Video! WOW is all I can say about that guy."
“It
was well worth the $20.”
“In
my honest opinion, that was the best event I ever went to.”
“That
180SX is just totally bad ass...the way it looks and sounds with
that turbo spooling while sliding sideways. Props also to the local
drifters for representing the 808.”
Misc
Comments about the Drift Session:
"Drift
Session owns (the) mainland US. Driftsession.com, check out the
videos on their main page. We need some stuff like that going on in
the states."
"The
point of us holding this event is to make a start. If this event
goes over well and we see a lot of interest now, we will try to
schedule MANY events, not just this one. If possible, we'll try to
book it monthly and have something similar to Drift Session." (event
organizer in New Jersey)
