Japan Drifting Videos
I'm not sure what track this is, but here's an in-car clip of D1 Grand Prix Champion Katsuhiro Ueo driving his Tomei powered Yukes AE86 hatchback. In the clip, Ueo demonstrates superb control over his vehicle, initiating high-speed manji drifts down a straightaway.
Hatakeyama Drifting Honda Civic Hatakeyama is one of the only recognized drivers in the world who drifts (or attempts to drift) front wheel drive vehicles.
Here's a clip of the infamous "Drift Extreme" team of Kumakubo, Kazama, Izumida, Nomura, Asamoto, and Takaka. For the past several years now, they've been featured at an annual extreme sports event at Ebisu Circuit called "Big X." The Big X show combines elements of drifting, motorcross, and exhibition driving into a daylong festival. These guys are a bunch of nuts. I love their 6+ car manji drifts as well as the drifting with motorcross guys jumping over them while they drift.
Here's a quick clip of Manabu Orido drifting a Lexus IS300 (Toyota Altezza) around what looks like Nikko Circuit in Japan. The Altezza has been modified by D1 Grand Prix driver Takahiro Ueno's company Vertex. Scroll down for a list of recommended aftermarket parts for the Toyota Altezza / Lexus IS300.
I can't tell exactly where this happened, other than it looks like Japan, but it seems that the second S13 in this clip was trying to make maximum use of the momentum generated by a feint technique in order to get his car pitched as far sideways as possible. Based on the track layout, I think that he had more than enough momentum to get his car sideways and carry himself through the corner, without having to feint left to right like that.
This is a fan made compilation video of drifting crashes from Japan. Looks like a lot of the crashes took place at some of the older Drift Club and Ikaten type "team-drift" competitions around Japan.
Here's a clip from the 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon in Makuhari, Japan. For those of you that missed it, the Tokyo Auto Salon is the largest automotive event in Japan held annually on the second weekend of January at the Makuhari Messe convention center. Car manufacturers, parts manufacturers, tuners, shops, racers, and enthusiasts alike gather for 3 days of cars, girls, and parties. Just like in America, cars and girls are definitely intertwined as hundreds of car show models (or "campaign girls") deck out and ready themselves for the thousands of amateur and professional photographers that flock to the Auto Salon. |
