Tetsuya Hibino had been competing as a relative unknown in the D1 Grand Prix for some time before getting noticed in the 3rd round of the 2004 season. At the Ebisu Circuit, Hibino literally came flying out of nowhere as he would take an aggressive inside line at the start of the Ebisu course straightaway; the inside line combined with his speed caused his vehicle to jump across the starting line. Surprised competitors and judges alike stood up and took notice of this Hibino as he finished 3rd at the event and carved out a spot for himself on the podium against other D1 regulars.
