After yet another 6
weeks of anticipation, the Drift Session opened its gates again for
the first event of the 2005 season. The Drift Session returns for
it's 5th event season of the only drifting events in Hawaii and the
first drifting event series in the entire United States of America.

At the start of the
day, a torrential downpour delayed the gates from opening for a few
minutes. A long line of drivers and spectators quickly formed, even
in the pouring rain. As the downpour lessened to a heavy rain, Drift
Session staff members quickly moved people into the racetrack
undaunted.

Just before opening
up the road course for drifters, a 10,000 strand of firecrackers was
set off for good luck at the start of the new year. Also Mr. Amano
from the Izumo Taisha Shinto temple in downtown made the trip out to
the Drift Session to perform a good luck track blessing and to
individually bless our drivers' vehicles.

The day went
relatively smoothly as 40 drivers took to the Short Course for
lapping and 60 drivers went to long course turn 1 for beginner's
practice. A competition at the end of the day was held at Long
Course Turn 1 for 2005 season championship points and a $150 pot as
well. Steve Oliberos walks away with this month's win in the points
championship series, however 2004 winner Barry Wong was not in
Hawaii to compete and crowd favorite Stanford Lau was experiencing
engine difficulty, keeping him from competition as well.

Congratulations
Hawaii for having the highest numbers of driver participation in a
drifting event in the United States. While the mainland may have big
crowds of spectators, the Drift Session is full of
drifters. Thank you for making Hawaii the unofficial capital of
actual drifting in the United States. See you next month at the
Drift Session!
